Brainerd woman turns 106
Edith Olson was born on March 13, 1907, on her parents’ 40-acre dairy farm in Morrison County. As one of eight children, Olson recalled working from sunup to sundown doing chores and caring for the family’s horses, according to officials at Good Samaritan Society - Brainerd, Nisswa and Pine River.
Olson attended school in Little Falls and met her husband at the age of 15. In April of 1932 they were married and moved to Minneapolis the following year. During the war, Olson sewed for the Bemis Bag Company. In 1945 they made their home in Excelsior until Walt died in 1997. The two celebrated more than 60 years of married life together.
Olson moved to Good Samaritan Apartments at Bethany in 1997 where she lived until October of 2010, when she moved to Good Samaritan - Birchwood.
Olson has two children, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Family, friends and staff will help Edith celebrate her 106 Birthday at Good Samaritan – Birchwood in Brainerd.
