Brainerd chiropractor's license suspended

The license of James L. Davis, doctor of chiropractic based in Brainerd, was suspended last month for two years by the Board of Chiropractic Examiners for violating professional boundaries with a female patient.

The board provided that the suspension shall be stayed after 60 days contingent on Davis complying with the terms and conditions outlined by the board.

Davis could not be reached for comment Friday. Officials at Lakes Chiropractic and Physical Therapy in Brainerd said Davis is currently not working there and declined further comment.

The board’s stipulation and consent order alleges he engaged in an improper relationship with a female patient. The stipulation and consent order said Davis:

• Provided alcohol to the patient, a minor.

• Engaged in conversations of a personal nature with the patient via texting, Facebook chats and phone calls.

• Paid the patient $1,400 cash to perform home and lawn services; and

• Paid the patient $2,400 to not tell anyone of the personal relationship.

The board document further stated Davis engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with the patient and failed to cooperate with an investigation by the board when he denied knowing the patient or her mother.
