Send-off party for Miss Brainerd is May 19

A wardrobe viewing and send-off party for Miss Brainerd Lakes 2012 Heather Erickson is 4 p.m. May 19 at Living Word North Church.

In June, Erickson will compete for the title of Miss Minnesota 2013 in Eden Prairie with 21 other young women from across the state. She will perform her talent piece and present her evening gown and various other outfits she will be wearing the week of Miss Minnesota.

Miss Baxter 2012 Maren Goff is not having a send-off but will also compete in June for the title of Miss Minnesota 2013.

Before Erickson’s send-off, there will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in learning more about this scholarship program at 2 p.m. at the Living Word North Church.

Erickson is the daughter of Wayne and Rox-Ann Erickson. She is a 2007 graduate from Brainerd High School. After completing her associate of arts degree from Central Lakes College in 2009, she was accepted to the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota — Twin Cities. She graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s of science of biology degree with emphasis on human physiology. She aspires to obtain her medical doctor/doctorate with the goal of becoming a certified trauma surgeon.

Erickson has played violin for 10 years and played with the Brainerd Symphonic Orchestra and currently plays for the Heartland Symphony Orchestra. Her platform is entitled “Transforming Lifestyles: Making Healthy Happen” in which she advocates for healthy lifestyles. She was a four sport athlete at Brainerd High School and achieved many accomplishments throughout her high school career including being the youngest athlete to letter in cheerleading, holding the school record for girl’s pole vaulting and being voted in as captain of swimming and diving.

Goff is the 19-year-old daughter of Patrick and Beverly Goff. She is a 2012 graduate from Brainerd High School where she served as senior class president. Throughout her high school career, she was active in class cabinet, student council, National Honor Society, symphonic band, Jazz band, a capella choir, and mock trial. She is a freshman at Minnesota State University - Moorhead where she is pursuing a degree in mass communications.

Goff has a passion for music and theater and has been performing on stage with school and community theater groups and musical ensembles since the age of 8. In her spare time she enjoys biking, rock climbing, scrapbooking and reading. Her platform is “Reading Rocks: Promoting Children’s Literacy while Making Reading Fun” and was inspired by her passion for books and reading. It is her goal to inspire children, educate parents, and advocate within the Brainerd Lakes community about the importance of reading. Maren has launched her first audio CD; “Once Upon a Time: A Collection of Royal Fairytales.”

The Miss Brainerd Lakes/Central Lakes Scholarship Pageant Inc. is a Minnesota nonprofit scholarship program and is the official preliminary to the Miss Minnesota and Miss America Scholarship pageants. Miss Brainerd Lakes and Miss Central Lakes is open to young women aged 17-24 and Miss Brainerd Lakes’ and Miss Central Lakes’ Outstanding Teen is open to young girls aged 13-17. There is a newly added Princess Program for girls aged 5-12 which is strictly a mentoring program not a competition.
