Nolan, Peterson to host farm forum
LITTLE FALLS — The farm bill’s recent failure to pass out of the House, as well as the future of agriculture and particularly dairy farming in Morrison County and around Minnesota, will be the subjects of a morning forum in Little Falls on Monday. July 1, organized by 8th District Congressman Rick Nolan, D-Minn.
The forum, scheduled from 10–11:30 a.m. at the Morrison County Government Center, will welcome as honored guest U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson (MN-07), former chairman and now ranking member of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee.
The forum will also include a panel of area officials from around the state, including Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Dave Frederickson, Morrison County Farm Services Administration Director Darrell Larsen, and Carol Anderson with the Morrison County Development Commission.
“Forums like these help folks understand the work we’re doing in Washington, and how it affects our farming communities here at home,” Rep. Nolan said. “With the recent failure of the farm bill to pass out of the House — in large part because of an amendment by the majority that eliminated the dairy reforms we have been working so hard to institute — it’s more important than ever for us to communicate closely with our farm families, small business owners and rural Minnesota stakeholders with respect to what the future may hold.”
Nolan predicted a “robust and candid discussion” involving the two Congressmen, other guests and rural constituents from the Morrison County-central Minnesota area.
