■ Eligible for a state
property tax refund?
Taxpayers may be eligible for a refund on their property tax from the state of Minnesota. Property must be homesteaded. If an individual’s income from 2012 was low and the 2013 payable property tax was high, taxpayers may be eligible. They may be eligible if the taxes payable in 2013 increased by 12 percent and at least $100 compared to the 2012 tax and may receive a refund without regard to their income.
Form M1PR (Minnesota Property Tax Refund 2012) should be filed by Aug. 15. Forms may be obtained from the Minnesota Department of Revenue, public library or at the Crow Wing County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office. Individuals may also file electronically with e-services website www.revenue.state.mn.us.
