Multiple-vehicle crash on Highway 47 injures three

A vehicle crossed the centerline and struck two others, injuring three people Friday morning on Highway 47.

The crash, which involved five people in three vehicles, was reported at 10:56 a.m. in Kanabec County, the Minnesota State Patrol reported. Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.

Carol Heltzer, 53, Richfield, was driving a Nissan north on Highway 47 when she crossed over the center line, the state patrol reported. Heltzer’s car side-swiped one south-bound vehicle causing minor damage before she lost control and struck and severely damaged another vehicle. Heltzer was seriously injured and transported to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Bruce Kerkoff, 63, and Beverly Kerkoff, 63, both of Isle, were in the side-swiped vehicle and were not reported injured. The driver of the third vehicle, Peggy Orvis, 48, of Onamia, and her passenger, Jeanette Bates, 56, Wahkon, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Orvis was taken to Onamia Hospital. Bates was taken to Mora Hospital.
