Program on Islam set for Pequot Lakes Library

Doug Davis, an area seasonal resident, will give an informal talk titled “Understanding Islam” at the Pequot Lakes Library at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 21.

Davis received a Ph.D. in personality psychology from the University of Michigan in 1974. He taught for 33 years at Haverford College, Haverford, Pa, where he is emeritus professor of psychology. He and his wife, anthropologist Susan Schaefer Davis, published a book on adolescence in Morocco, in 1989.

Organizers of the event said it was living, working and raising a family in a Muslim society that stirred Davis’ interest in Islam, just as growing up in Minnesota had gotten him thinking about Christianity. He will explain in this talk how Islam came to be and has been practiced over its 1,400-year history and how it works today for Moroccan and American Muslims.

There will be time after the program for questions and answers.
