Two drivers injured in multiple vehicle crash

CASS LAKE — Two people received minor injuries in a five-vehicle crash at 8:34 a.m. Monday on Highway 2 in Cass County, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

A Dodge Dakota driven by Terrance Warner, Jr., Cass Lake, 16, was eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle slid across the opposing lane and was struck in the front bumper area by a Leech Lake Reservation vehicle driven by Mike Brown, 71, Deer River, who was westbound on Highway 2. A Chrysler mini-van driven by Todd Tew, 41, Kennett Square, Pa., also was also westbound behind a tractor/trailer and slowed for the accident and drove onto the shoulder before being rear ended by a Ford Ranger driven by Todd Kirt, 40, Grand Rapids, who was also westbound on Highway 2. A Ford Expedition driven by Robert Barton, 51, Cohasset, who also was westbound on Highway 2, observed the cloud of snow and attempted to avoid the two vehicles by taking the north ditch but slid into the side of the mini-van which had been spun sideways by being rear-ended.

Tew and Barton were taken via ambulance to the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center for minor injuries.
