Brainerd names new city administrator
A new city administrator has been chosen for Brainerd.
Patrick Wussow, the current county administrator for Aitkin County, will take his post in Brainerd Feb. 10.
The Brainerd City Council unanimously voted for Wussow at its meeting Monday.
Wussow’s salary will start at $105,000. His salary will be reviewed and set by the city council starting Jan. 1, 2015.
The city began its search for a new administrator in September after the current administrator, Theresa Goble, announced her retirement.
There were 38 applicants for the position. The city’s consultant, Springsted, reviewed the applications and selected 17 who most closely met the qualifications established by the council.
Those 17 completed a supplemental questionnaire. With those answers, Springsted conducted phone interviews.
Based on that feedback, Springsted presented 10 candidates to the council for consideration.
Three finalists were named. The other two were Joel Dhein, the current city administrator in Mora; and Joel Peck, the current city administrator in St. Croix Falls.
Wussow also served as city administrator in Big Lake and Tonka Bay for six years each and was the city planner in North Mankato for four years. Wussow has a bachelor of science degree in urban studies-management from Mankato State University.
Wussow was unable to be reached for comment Tuesday.
