The event begins at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 with a Welcome Social at the Sportsman Lodge. The fishing derby begins at 10 a.m. Feb 22 from Cyrus Resort. Prizes include nearly $1,000 in ice fishing gear from Clam Outdoors, in addition to other cash and prizes.

The Social and Shore Lunch begins at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the American Legion in Baudette. Participants in the Feb. 23 ice fishing event may check in during the social for ice house locations. The ice houses, bait and transportation to the houses will be furnished by Arnesen’s Rocky Point Resort in Roosevelt.

Program supporters who purchase a Holes for Poles ticket but are unable to fish on Feb. 22 may use their ticket any Sunday during the 2013-14 fishing season with a call-ahead reservation to the resort.

The line worker program training site in Baudette is operated by the Wadena campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College. Holes for Poles is sponsored by the Wadena Area College Foundation, which raises money and develops programs to support student scholarships, alumni relations, and program and equipment needs on behalf of the campus.

The foundation is also sponsoring a Holes for Poles raffle, with a grand prize of an open water fishing package valued at $1,000 from Arnesen’s Rocky Point Resort.

Tickets are $75 for the social and shore lunch and day of ice fishing, and $15 for the social and shore lunch only. Raffle tickets are $10. For event or raffle tickets, contact Dan Hoskins at North Star Electric in Baudette at 218-634-2202, or in Wadena contact M State Lisa Reddick at 218-631-7931 or lisa.baymler-reddick@minnesota.edu.
