January is National Mentoring Month and if you have ever thought about becoming involved as a mentor we invite you to give us a call or stop by our office. We will be happy to answer your questions and share a little information about some of the kids who are waiting.

Can you picture a child who has been through the interview process and then told to wait for a phone call from a Kinship Coordinator saying “we have someone who would like to be your mentor.”

Often the child asks at this point how long will it take, or will you call tomorrow? The days go by and days turn to months and occasionally months to a year or more. They ask why does it take so long or maybe even give up hope.

Mentor one child. That’s all it takes to make a difference!

Kinship Partners serves families in Crow Wing County, southern Cass County and the Staples/Motley area by providing positive role models to youth from the ages of 5 to 14. We have offices in Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, Crosby and Staples.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
