Man accused of running over pedestrian in road-rage case

WOODBURY - A suspected case of road rage led to a motorist running over a pedestrian at a busy Woodbury intersection, Washington County prosecutors say.

Christopher Phillip Gisch, 29, of Eagan, was charged with one count of third-degree assault and two counts of criminal vehicular operation – one of which is augmented by the use of alcohol during the crime. All three charges are felonies.

According to a criminal complaint, police responded Jan. 5 to a report of three males fighting on the side of a road. Officers saw two of the combatants drive away in a pickup.

Witnesses reported that the alleged victim and the other men were in a fight that led to the man being run over. He was taken to Woodwinds Health Campus, where it was determined he had a broken ankle.

The suspect’s vehicle was located at a home. Officers spoke with Gisch, who “stated it was road rage” and and admitted running over the other man, the complaint says.

A breath test revealed a blood-alcohol level of 0.12, the complaint states.

Court records show Gisch posted bond Jan. 8. He is scheduled to return to court Feb. 13.
