Two dead in Eden Prairie after high-speed chase, shooting
Highway 212 remains closed in both directions on the western edge Eden Prairie this afternoon following a police chase and subsequent police-involved shooting that left two dead this morning.
Eastbound Highway 212 is specifically closed at Minnesota Highway 41, and westbound Highway 212 is closed at Dell Road, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The opening of the roadway is uncertain at this time, but it may open in the late afternoon, according to MnDOT.
West-central Minnesotans traveling east on Highway 212 are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
The road closure is the result of a high-speed police chase stretching nearly 20 miles and a subsequent police-involved shooting that left a man and a woman dead Friday morning in Eden Prairie.
No police officers were hurt, according to the Minnesota State Patrol spokesman.
Officers from Chaska, the Carver County Sheriff's Office and the State Patrol responded to reports of a Red Saab driving erratically east of Norwood Young America in Carver County around 7:30 a.m., according a release from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The same car was reported fleeing a rear-end crash nearby. Officers chased the suspects on Highway 212 at speeds surpassing 80 mph, authorities said.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that MnDOT traffic cameras showed several police vehicles surrounded the Saab on Highway 212 between Minnesota 101 and Dell Road shortly before 8 a.m. after it crashed along the highway wall. The driver and passenger then got out of the car, but authorities would not detail what happened next, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
