Walker casino attempts to add live betting on horse racing

WALKER - Visitors to the Northern Lights Casino Hotel and Events Center in Walker will be able to bet on horse racing if the plan is approved by regulators.

The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and Canterbury Park Holding Corp. announced Tuesday they have signed a deal to allow the band to offer simulcast wagering on horse races at the Walker casino.

Canterbury Park also will be able to offer larger purses.

The Minnesota Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, the Minnesota Quarter Horse Racing Association and the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe also agreed to use profits from simulcast wagering at Northern Lights to increase purses at Canterbury Park.

This agreement between Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and Canterbury Park Holding Corporation requires the approval of the National Indian Gaming Commission and the Minnesota Racing Commission.
