The Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation (BLACF) and the Central Minnesota Community Foundation (CMCF), its parent organization, announced today that together they received a record $18.2 million in gifts in the first six months of its fiscal year to push its total assets over $100 million for the first time. BLACF received nearly $190,000 in gifts and established four new funds during that period.

The end of 2013 brought a significant spike in giving by local individuals and organizations. Together with its affiliates like BLACF, CMCF received $16.1 million of the $18.2 million gifts in December.

“For nearly three decades, individuals and organizations have looked to the Community Foundation to help them support the causes they care about and to leave a lasting legacy,” said Steve Joul, president of the Community Foundation. “What was different this year was the sheer number of gifts by both existing and new donors. What’s most exciting is the impact that these dollars will have in our community in the years and even decades to come.”

The Community Foundation established 25 new funds in Brainerd, St. Cloud, Alexandria, Willmar and surrounding areas, during the first half of its fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2013. These new funds represent $9.9 million in gifts.

“The growth in new funds demonstrates the vibrancy and need for the Community Foundation,” said Dennis Gregory, chair of the Community Foundation Board of Directors and Chief Operating Officer at Automotive Parts Headquarters Inc. “We’re fortunate to have a vehicle in our community that allows individuals to stretch the impact of their charitable gifts and support causes that matter to them.”

“We have seen the benefits of the Community Foundation model in the Greater St. Cloud area where CMCF was founded and in communities of Brainerd, Willmar and Alexandria where we have expanded over the years,” Joul said.

The Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation is part of the Central Minnesota Community, a public charity that administers over 600 charitable funds totaling more than $100 million for the benefit of local residents. CMCF has been engaging people and connecting resources to build a better community since 1985. Learn more at CommunityGiving.org/Brainerd.
