Caution urged for those tempted to shovel snow off rooftops
Brainerd MN 506 James St. / PO Box 974 56401

Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel is urging all county residents to exercise caution when attempting to shovel snow off their roofs.

“Each year we see injuries or worse as a result of people falling off or through roofs while attempting to remove snow,” Wetzel said in a news release.

Extra caution is warranted on pole shed style buildings where the likelihood of a collapse is even greater than on a house. Of special concern are buildings with fiberglass skylights that lie hidden under the snow. Skylights are not designed to support the weight of a person and pose a significant risk to anybody walking over them.

According to Wetzel, if residents are not certain they can accomplish snow removal safely themselves they are encouraged to contact a snow removal company.
