CLC named among top community colleges

For the third time, Central Lakes College has been named one of the top 150 community colleges in the country by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program. CLC is now eligible to compete for the 2015 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence and $1 million in prize funds.

The prize, awarded every two years, is the nation’s recognition of high achievement and performance among America’s community colleges and recognizes institutions for exceptional student outcomes in four areas: student learning, certificate and degree completion, employment and earnings, and high levels of access and success for minority and low-income students.

“Central Lakes College is pleased to be named one of the top 150 community colleges in the nation for a third year,” said Dr. Larry Lundblad, CLC president. “Central Lakes College is very focused on providing the best possible learning environment for all of our students. The recognition by the Aspen Institute indicates that we are making great progress in our quality measures.”

Ten finalists will be named in fall 2014. The Aspen Institute will then conduct site visits to each of the finalists and collect additional quantitative data, including employment and earnings data from states and transfer data from the National Student Clearinghouse. A prize jury will select a grand prize winner and a few finalists with distinction in early 2015.
