Brainerd community to kick off 2014 March for Babies

The 2014 March for Babies Kickoff raises money to help Minnesota babies with a healthy start.

Past, current and first-time participants will gather to celebrate babies and discuss how to engage more walkers for this year’s event than ever before. March for Babies is the March of Dimes largest fundraiser, with 350 walkers bringing in more than $28,000 in Brainerd last year.

Families are invited to enjoy free passes to the Waterpark at Rapid River Lodge. March of Dimes reported “it’s an opportunity for families to connect, share stories and pick up materials for a successful March for Babies fundraising campaign.”

The event is from 2-4 p.m. March 2 at Rapid River Lodge and Waterpark, 7376 Woida Road, Baxter. March of Dimes reported in an average week in Minnesota, nearly 70,000 babies are born — and 7,000 of them are born too soon. Premature babies often spend their first weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) fighting for life and often have lasting consequences such as vision and hearing loss or learning disabilities.

March of Dimes reports it is a champion for all babies, those born healthy and those who need help to survive and thrive. March of Dimes noted its provides help for moms for everything they need to know about having a healthy baby and how to recognize the warning signs of premature labor.

March of Dimes provides information and support to families through its NICU Family Support program at St. Cloud Hospital.

People are encouraged to sign up for March for Babies at and start a team with co-workers, family or friends. Last year, more than 350 people attended the event. This year the event is planned May 3 at Forestview Middle School in Baxter.
