BHS bands to host renowned brass quintet

The Brainerd High School (BHS) bands will perform a joint concert with the renowned Copper Street Brass Quintet at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Tornstrom Auditorium in Brainerd.

The 6 p.m. concert will feature the Freshman Blue Band and BHS Concert Band. The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature the Freshman Silver Band, BHS Symphonic Band and BHS Wind Symphony. All groups will perform alongside the Copper Street Brass Quintet.

“It is a rare and wonderful opportunity that these students have to perform on the same stage and accompany these professional musicians,” said Chris Fogderud, BHS band director, who said he is excited about the experience that the concert will give his students. “The nature of music is such that a collaboration of students and master musicians can be fulfilling for all involved, the students, directors and the professional musicians themselves.”

Cost is $4 for students and $6 for adults.

This activity is made possible by the votes of Minnesotans through a grant from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
