Brainerd Area Chess Tournament scheduled

BAXTER — The Brainerd Area Chess Tournament is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 29 at Forestview Middle School in Baxter.

Cost is $10 for students and adults registering early through the Brainerd School District Community Education Office or $15 at the door. Registration closes at 8:45 a.m. on March 29.

There will be five rounds for individuals and/or teams, four rounds will be assured. The chess tournament will use the Swiss system pairing.

Awards will be give to the top individual players in divisions/grades K-3, 4-6 and 7-12 and adult. A “traveling” team trophy will go to the overall first place team.

Scores will be based on the top four players from each K-12 team. Grade level team awards will be based on the scores based on top four players in each age group.

Participants are asked to bring a chess set if possible, tournament style preferred.
