Fit City Aitkin to host disc golf tournament
The Vibram Birdie Bash disc golf tournament will be held at 10 a.m. May 31 at Aitkin’s City Park disc golf course, with all proceeds donated to Fit City Aitkin.
Fit City Aitkin member Kathy Brophy said her group is excited to endorse the Vibram Birdie Bash.
“The Aitkin disc golf course was established in 2010, and it is wonderful to see people of all ages coming out to engage in physical fitness that is easily accessible all year,” she said.
Fit City Aitkin’s aim is to provide activities and programs for the community that promote an active and healthy lifestyle.
“I’ve organized a couple disc golf tournaments in the area and I thought an all-ages event that’s as fun as it is competitive would be a good match for Fit City Aitkin’s mission,” said tournament director Matt Perrine. “The Birdie Bashes are great for all players, regardless of skill level: Experienced players get to compete against their friends, while new players get to play alongside those players and learn what the sport is all about.
“Best of all, everybody takes home new discs.”
Unlike most disc golf competitions, players are only afforded two throws per hole during a Birdie Bash. For Aitkin’s par-three holes, players will receive 5 points for a hole-in-one, 2 points if he/she gets his/her disc in the basket in two shots and 1 point if his/her disc hits the basket but doesn’t go in. If no points are scored on any given hole, the closest to the basket in each group earns a point after two throws.
Cost for the Birdie Bash is $30. Players receive a number of items for participating, including two new discs (a driver or a mid-range and a putter), a dry-fit T-shirt, a mini disc, a Vibram sticker and a disc golf towel. Only the new discs provided to each player can be used during the event.
There is no day-of registration for this event; players must register at http://vibram.usetopscore.com/e/aitkin-city-park/register by May 25.
