Contract not renewed for Warriors hockey coach
Jim Archibald will no longer be the Brainerd Warriors head hockey coach.
The Brainerd School Board Monday unanimously voted to not renew his contract. Board members Bob Nystrom and Tom Haglin were not at the meeting.
Brainerd Superintendent Steve Razidlo said after careful consideration by the administrative leadership team, “We believe it is in the best interest of students and for the program to move forward in not renewing the contract with the boys’ hockey coach.”
Board member Chris Robinson asked Razidlo if the recommendation came from the administrative staff “in that they want a change in direction.” Razidlo said “yes.”
This will be the second hockey coach in Brainerd in the past month to lose their coaching job. Stephanie Sustercich on Feb. 28 submitted her “requested” resignation as head coach of the Brainerd/Little Falls Flying Warriors girls hockey team. Sustercich told the Dispatch she was asked to resign by Brainerd activities director Charlie Campbell. She said the reason for the request was “political.”
Following the meeting, Razidlo would not comment if there was any disciplinary action taken against Archibald.
Calls were made to Archibald, but were not returned.
Archibald was the hockey coach for seven seasons and in December of 2013 he was presented his 100th career victory.
This hockey season marked the sixth consecutive year the Warriors had won or shared the Central Lakes College conference title. The Warriors lost to the Moorhead Spuds in the semifinals in February ending Brainerd’s season with a 16-8-2 mark.
