The winter storm warning by the Weather Service remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday for much of central Minnesota.

Heavy snow, 6 to 12 inches, is expected from Alexandria to Little Falls to Lake Mille Lacs.

For the Duluth area, storm snow totals are expected to reach 6 to 10 inches, with some locally higher amounts possible along the higher terrain of the North Shore. Northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow, along with the chance for some lake-enhanced snow totals in the higher terrain along Lake Superior.

For the Twin Cities, a winter weather advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. Rain, snow and sleet is forecast to start this afternoon and change over to all snow this evening, possibly becoming heavy at times. It should end Wednesday morning. Storm snow totals are expected to reach 3 to 6 inches.
