Boy Scouts to host public disc golf fundraiser

The Boy Scouts of America’s Pine Tree District, which covers the Brainerd lakes area, will host a public disc golf fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3, at Lum Park.

The event on May 3, sponsored by disc golf manufacturer Discraft, will be divided into two distinct components: a disc golf tutorial from 10 to 11 a.m. and a tournament from noon to 4 p.m.

To help ease new players into disc golf – also known as Frisbee golf or “frolf” — those who register for the tutorial portion and pay by April 25 will receive two discs suitable for beginners.

The second half of the event, the tournament, will commence after an hour-long “free play” session around Lum Park’s disc golf course. This hour was designed as both an opportunity for new players to test out everything they’ve just learned and for tournament participants to warm up before they start competing against each other.

Those who register for the tournament portion and pay by April 25 will receive two discs: a special-edition Discraft fairway driver that is only available at events such as this and one of the company’s newest long-range distance drivers.

Each half of the event costs $25, and all proceeds benefit area Scouts. Those interested in both components pay only $40 and still get all three free discs if they register and pay by April 25. To register, contact Nate Phillipps at 715-431-0189 or nateph@bsacmc.org.
