■ Nolan announces housing grant for Mille Lacs band
Rep. Rick Nolan, D-Minn., Thursday announced a $1,617,649 housing grant for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.
The grant, part of the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) Program, will go toward funding eligible affordable housing activities, including new construction, modernization, rehabilitation and crime prevention safety.
“Though Native Americans make up only 1 percent of our nation’s population, they account for more than 8 percent of our homeless,” said Nolan. “These funds will help ensure the Mille Lacs Band has proper, modern housing both now and in the years to come.”

Many native plants — both plants and seeds — and native trees still available for pre-sale.
• Individual species of six packs: prairie onion, lupine, black-eyed Susan, wild bergamont, cardinal flower, anise hyssop, little bluestem, prairie dropseed.
• Kits of 36 plugs: pollinator café, habitat oasis, filter garden. seed packets; a new lawn, steep slope, wild meadow. Seeds packet cover about 500 square feet.
• Trees Available: black cherry, cottonwood, red oak, redosier dogwood and also several other species.
Pick up is May 1-May 3 at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.

■ Consumers encouraged to
review flood insurance needs
Rep. John Ward, DFL-Baxter, is joining the Minnesota Department of Commerce in encouraging Minnesotans to review their flood insurance needs. Flood damage is not covered under a standard homeowner’s policy and flood insurance policies need to be purchased 30 days prior to its use.
The Commerce Department provides information for consumers who are considering flood insurance to safeguard their homes.
For more information about flood insurance, contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Federal Insurance Administration, Washington DC. 20472. Information is also available on the National Flood Insurance Programs website at www.FloodSmart.gov. For information about filing claims, or to report trouble applying for flood insurance, call the national information line at 1-888-379-9531.

■ MNsure Contact Center adds Sunday hours
The MNsure Contact Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays, March 23, and March 30.
The Contact Center’s regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
