Crow Wing County Highway Department announces 2014 projects

The Crow Wing County Highway Department has scheduled about $8 million of roadway improvements for the 2014 construction season.

• County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 3 from CSAH 37 to CSAH 1 in the cities of Crosslake and Fifty Lakes.

The project will consist of a complete reconstruction, including minor new alignment, curb and gutter in select areas and a new roadway surface including 8-foot-wide paved shoulders. Bids were received on

Feb. 18 with construction to begin as soon as weather allows. The roadway will be closed to through traffic with CSAH 66 and CSAH 1 being utilized as detour routes.

• CSAH 8 from Highway 18 to Peterson Lake Road in the townships of Nokay Lake, Bay Lake and Deerwood. This is a resurfacing project that includes minor subgrade improvements, bituminous milling and a bituminous overlay along with paving 4-foot-wide shoulders. Bids will be received on April 2 and this will be a joint contract with work to be performed on two other roadways.

• CSAH 28 from CSAH 12 to Highway 210 in Irondale Township and the city of Crosby. The project includes milling portions of the existing surface, rehabilitation of select curb and gutter and storm sewer items and resurfacing the entire roadway. Bids will be received on April 2 and this will be a joint contract with work to be performed on two other roadways.

• CSAH 48 from Fourth Street to College Drive in the cities of Brainerd and Baxter. The roadway will have the top of the existing surface milled off, followed by a bituminous overlay. Numerous curb and gutter and storm sewer repairs will also be performed. Bids were received on March 19 and this will be a joint contract with work to be performed on three other roadways.

• County Road 102 from Stimac Road to CSAH 12 in Irondale Township. The project entails providing a leveling and final wearing course of pavement, including paving 2-foot-wide shoulders. Bids will be received on April 2 and this will be a joint contract with work to be performed on two other roadways.

• County Road 117 from CSAH 45 to Highway 25 in the city of Brainerd and Oak Lawn Township. A leveling and final wearing course of pavement will be provided, along with constructing right turn lanes at Oak Ridge Road and Highway 25.

Bids were received on March 19 and this will be a joint contract with work to be performed on three other roadways.
