Essentia Health hosts April 15 car seat check-up for parents and grandparents

Parents and grandparents who transport children younger than the age of 9 are invited to have their car seats inspected and installed by a child passenger safety technician.

The Car Seat Checkup is from 4-6:30 p.m., April 15, at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center, 523 N. Third St., Brainerd, lower level garage.

“The statistics are staggering. Nationally over 85 percent of kids are not restrained properly,” said Amanda Svir, Trauma Coordinator at Essentia Health – St. Joseph’s Medical Center, in a news release. “Locally, 95 percent of the area’s kids are not restrained properly. This is Essentia Health’s second car seat clinic at St Joseph’s Medical Center. Certified technicians will be checking seats and educating families on how to keep these precious lives safe.”

Participants are invited to bring their car seat installed in their cars with their children and the trained technicians will evaluate if the car seat is the proper size for the child, if it is installed properly, and answer questions about car seat safety.

For more information, call 828-7414 for a free 30-minute appointment.

The clinic will go on rain or shine and is provided by: Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Crow Wing County Passenger Safety Coalition, and Lakes Area Child Passenger Safety Coalition.
