Train strikes semi near Cass Lake

CASS LAKE — A semi tractor-trailer was struck broadside by a train late Sunday afternoon near Cass Lake.

The crash, reported at 4:09 p.m. Sunday occurred on the Pike Bay Loop by Highway 2. The truck driver, Thomas Gregerson, 43, of Cass Lake, suffered a non life-threatening injury. He was transported to Sanford Health in Bemidji.

Gregerson was driving a 1998 Mack 600 Super on the Pike Bay Loop. It’s unclear what direction he was traveling.

The Minnesota State Patrol investigated the crash and reported it was unknown if Gregerson was wearing a seat belt.

Assisting at the scene were the Cass County Sheriff’s Department and the Cass Lake Police Department.
