essay deadline extended
NEW YORK MILLS — The deadline for the Great American Think-Off essay contest has been extended to April 15.
“Love or fear: Which motivates us more?” is the 2014 question posed by the Great American Think-Off and everyone still has time to submit an essay (no more than 750 words).
This annual essay and debate contest offers four $500 prizes to anyone who enters and travels, all expenses paid by the Great American Think-Off, to New York Mills, to debate the issue on June 14.
Essays can be mailed (no entry fee) to Great American Think-Off, P.O. Box 246, New York Mills, MN 56567; or submitted on line through the Think-Off website, www.think-off.org. Essays can also be submitted by email to email@example.com.
■ CLC to host free
workshop on grant seeking
The Hassler Library at Central Lakes College will host a free workshop on grant seeking for nonprofit organizations from 9:30-11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, in room E203.
The session will be led by Kief Schladweiler, coordinator of the Funding Information Network with the Foundation Center. No registration required.
■ Janzen named Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar
Hannah Janzen, of Palisade, a student at Central Lakes College, has been named a 2014 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each Silver Scholar receives a $1,250 scholarship and a special medallion.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society administers the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Program and recognizes Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team scholars during All-State Academic Team Recognition ceremonies held in 38 states.
■ Science Fair set in Crosby
CROSBY — The fifth Annual Crosby-Ironton Junior High Science Fair will be held from 5-6 p.m. on April 1 in the gymnasium.
The award ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. The high school S.A.L.T. group will have a booth along with the high school Robotics Club.
