Construction in Crow Wing County increases by 17 percent in 2013
The total value of new construction in Crow Wing County increased by 17 percent in 2013 compared to 2012, according to figures released by the Crow Wing County Land Services Department.
This compares to a new construction total of $138 million in 2008, before the economic downturn.
New construction totaled $73,804,700 in 2013 compared to $62,872,500 in 2012, an increase of 10,932,200, stated Gary Griffin, land services supervisor for property valuation and classification. Griffin said values countywide increased by 1 percent during the same period, from $9.5 billion to $9.6 billion. From 2008 to 2013, the county’s estimated market value of properties decreased by 20 percent, from $12 billion to $9.5 billion.
“The total value of new construction for 2014 is the most in the last five years. Hopefully, it’s another indicator property values are stabilized and our area is doing better economically,” Griffin said in a news release.
The county’s 2014 assessment is currently being mailed to taxpayers. The valuations for this assessment are based on sales from the period October 2012 through September 2013.
Griffin encouraged taxpayers to contact his office with any questions they may have about valuation and classification notices. The office is on the main floor of the Land Services Building, 322 Laurel St., Brainerd. The main phone number is 824-1010 and the email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
