About 40 Lions gathered at the Baxter Lions Club at Camp Vanesek for a zone meeting on March 25. Represented that night were Lions clubs from Baxter, Brainerd, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes Breezy Point and Pillager Area.

Sue Stebbins, zone chair, welcomed those who attended. Each of the clubs introduced their incoming presidents. The guest speaker for the night was from Wings of Mercy, which provides air transportation for people to distant medical facilities.

Sharon Orser, Baxter Lions Club secretary, received a 100 percent secretaries award for her work. Ron Reph, a member of the Nisswa Lions received a service of excellence award for his work with a new sight machine for visually impaired.

District 5M9 Governor Don Hendrickx delivered a membership update. Upcoming activities in the area and conventions were discussed.

The Baxter Lions club members made an impact in the community through service such as Night to Unite, the Crow Wing County Fair and Salvation Army Bell ringing. Proceeds from past fundraising events have been used for scholarships, school trips, Toys for Kids, Bridges of Hope and Special Olympics.
