Free vaccination clinic in Cass County

WALKER — Cass County Public Health is pleased to announce a free vaccination opportunity for all Cass County students currently in grades 6-12. This opportunity is being made available due to immunization law changes that will go into effect Sept. 1, 2014. Parents or guardians will need to be present to consent for the vaccinations.

The mass vaccination clinic will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. April 10, at the Pine River-Backus School, 401 Murray Ave, Pine River. Parking is available in back parking lot entrance to commons area. More information or questions may be directed to Jeri Seegmiller, PHN, County Team lead, at 547-1340, extension 223.

Two vaccines will be available, Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) and Meningococcal vaccines. All students entering grades 7 are required to be vaccinated with Tdap as well as Meningococcal by the Minnesota school law by Sept. 1, 2014.

This mass vaccination exercise is available through the Cass County Public Health emergency preparedness plan and the Minnesota Department of Health.

The free vaccine is being made available through Federal 317 vaccine funding. There are very limited situations in which this vaccine can be used for children regardless of insurance coverage. A preparedness exercise is one of these situations. Families are encouraged to review their insurance coverage and/or take part in this free event.
