Manager at Kennedy Transmission injured in welding accident

A 39-year-old man was severely injured Monday while welding at Kennedy Transmission Brake and Auto Service, located at 1006 Washington St., in Brainerd, reported the Brainerd Fire Department.

Dennis W. Johnson was transported by North Memorial Ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, where he was treated and then transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis hospital had no information on Johnson’s condition.

Firefighters received the call at 1:20 p.m. Upon arrival, the fire had already been extinguished and the man suffered severe injuries on multiple body parts.

Firefighters investigated and found that the fire started when the man was welding near chemicals.

The Brainerd Police Department assisted at the scene. Firefighters cleared at 1:51 p.m.

According to Kennedy Transmission’s website, Johnson is the manager and has more than 13 years of automotive experience. The Brainerd company specializes in transmission service and repair and has been in business for more than 50 years.
