The State of Water: Minnesotans Protecting Our Lakes and Rivers” will be May 1-2 at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd.

The conference is designed to offer attendees the latest updates and information on challenges and opportunities facing Minnesota’s waters. It will bring together a host of speakers, including representatives of state agencies and leading experts on varying topics. The event offers a five-track series of workshops and breakout sessions designed to cover a wide range of significant issues:


• Aquatic invasive species

• Restoring aquatic habitat

• Watersheds

• Local impact and how to achieve goals and

• Groundwater, nutrient management and run-off.

There will be 35 different workshops and breakout sessions on the topics. This conference is open to anyone with interests in Minnesota’s lakes and rivers. The program is designed to meet needs and interests of lake association members, naturalists, citizen scientists, local decision makers and citizens concerned about the future of our lakes and rivers.

The first day’s keynote speaker is author and conservation activist Darby Nelson, an aquatic biologist and three-term member of the Minnesota Legislature. On the second day, attendees will hear from a panel composed of Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Commissioner John Linc Stine, Department of Natural Resources Assistant Commissioner Barb Naramore and Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources Executive Director John Jaschke.

The conference is being collaboratively planned and hosted by Conservation Minnesota, Freshwater Society, University of Minnesota Extension, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
