Warrant issued for Grand Rapids man in child porn case

GRAND RAPIDS - A warrant was issued this week for a Grand Rapids man accused of distributing child pornography over the Internet.

Daryl Wayne Phelps, 48, failed to appear Monday in State District Court on seven felony counts of possession of pornographic work involving minors.

Phelps is accused of possessing and distributing several videos depicting sexual acts on juveniles, who are all believed to be younger than 14. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent conducting an investigation downloaded a file containing child pornography on July 9, 2012. The agency was able to track the file to an IP address at a home in rural Grand Rapids. In November 2012, agents executed a search warrant at the residence.

Phelps’ laptop and a CD were forensically examined and 39 suspected child pornography videos were found, according to the complaint. An analysis of seven videos revealed young male and female victims being sexually abused.
