Brainerd Key Club earn awards
The Brainerd High School (BHS) Key club recently attended the district Minnesota/Dakota Leadership Convention in St. Cloud.
Students who attended were Delaney Kennedy, Connor Gunsbury, Caleb Christensen, Jordan Kleist, Brianna Manley, Claire Seikas, Karlene Knutson, Gabby Haire, Annie Grabowski and Sara Whiteman. The club received numerous awards. Christensen took first place in Oratory Speaking. He spoke on “What does a Key Club need to be strong?” Christensen was invited to give his speech at the banquet. The Brainerd Key Club also took second place in scrapbook, video, non-digital poster and received the Distinguished Club Silver Achievement Award.
The club currently has 52 paid memberships and volunteers countless hours at BHS and in the Brainerd Lakes area.
Gunsbury was elected to serve on the district board for Region 3 for the upcoming school year 2014-2015. He is the first BHS Key club member to serve on the board.
Gunsbury, Christensen and Seikas have intentions to attend the International Key Club convention scheduled June 30 to July 6 in Anaheim, Calif. They will be asking local Brainerd organizations to assist them in raising funds to attend this event.
“I have been proud to represent the Brainerd Key club for the last five years and thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the ambition of these young individuals and their willingness to volunteer in the school district and the Brainerd Lakes community,” Key Club adviser Ginger Augustinack said.
