Volunteers help with Minnesota Governor's Fishing Opener
Hundreds of Brainerd Lakes Area volunteers are joining together for the 2014 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener. Volunteers will help perform a variety of tasks throughout the weekend event, May 8-11, such as serving dinner at the free community picnic on Friday, May 9, in downtown Nisswa, to serving as a fishing host for this year’s event.
The 2014 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener on Gull Lake is being hosted by the Brainerd Lakes Chamber and host property Grand View Lodge in collaboration with the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce.
More than 300 people representing a variety of groups, ranging from 4-H clubs to Boy Scout troops, civic organizations to church groups, corporations to nonprofit organizations, high school sports teams to firefighters, have signed on to volunteer their time. Another 50 volunteers are needed, especially those willing to clean up downtown Nisswa after the Friday, May 9, free community picnic.
“Our volunteers – individuals serving on our committees as well as groups representing various organizations – have really stepped up to help us create what we believe will be the grandest Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener,” said Frank Soukup, of Grand View Lodge, and Steve Mau, of Brainerd General Rental, co-chairs of the 2014 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener. “This event will shine the spotlight on our Brainerd Lakes Area to our media guests. It’s important that we provide a memorable experience through our superior hospitality. To do so, we need your help.”
