Sheriff Todd Dahl announces his intent to run for re-election
Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl announced Friday that he will seek a third term as Crow Wing County sheriff.
“Serving as your elected sheriff for the past eight years has been an honor and something that I truly cherish,” he said. “I appreciate the confidence, trust and continued support that you have shown me professionally as well as personally. I spent my earlier law enforcement career preparing for and hoping to someday be your sheriff and I would like to continue in this position. We have maintained a very high degree of professionalism in our office and established a partnership with our citizen’s that I am extremely proud of.
“During this time as your sheriff, we have officially opened a new jail facility, created an in-house training division, implemented a new county computer and records management system, incorporated the Emergency Management Program, created the TRIAD program (law enforcement and senior citizens working together to remain safe in their homes), restructured the Sheriff’s Office to better serve the citizens of Crow Wing County, and adapted to extreme budget shortfalls.”
Dahl began his career with the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office in the Water Patrol Division while in college, conducted his internship there and was hired full time in 1987. Dahl is a graduate of Brainerd High School, Bemidji State University, FBI National Academy and the National Sheriff’s Institute. He worked several years in the area of patrol as well as holding positions as a patrol supervisor, administrative supervisor, a member and supervisor of both the tactical team and dive team as well as DARE instructor, firearms instructor and defensive tactics instructor. Dahl is active in the community and has served for many years as an area hockey coach, a member of the lakes area law enforcement polar plunge planning board and participant, Minnesota Crime Prevention Association, National/Minnesota Sheriff’s Association, Crow Wing County Chiefs of Police Association, Volunteer Martial Arts Instructor, Brainerd Sports Booster Executive Board Member, Brainerd Sertoma Club Member, Radiothon to End Child Abuse Volunteer, Volunteer Reader in local schools, Camp Confidence Board of Directors, Brainerd Senior Center volunteer, member of Brainerd Area Catholic Churches, and past host family for the Brainerd Lakes Blue Thunder and Lunkers Amateur Baseball Teams. In February 2014, Dahl was inducted into the Bemidji State University Athletic Hall of Fame.
Dahl said “I am very proud of the continued progress and accomplishments made by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office these past eight years. We have had a great team in place in the past and currently have an outstanding team as well. I’m equally proud that I still have the same energy, the same drive and determination I had when I was first elected and feel very fortunate to be in this position. Crow Wing County is a very safe place to live and raise our families and I would consider it an honor and privilege to represent each of you once again as your sheriff.”
Dahl is married to his wife Sue and they have two children Eryn 19, a student at the College of St. Benedict and Peter 17, a junior at Brainerd High School. They live north of Baxter with their two hunting labs, Ozzie and Hank.
