Wells Fargo employee accused of stealing more than $2,000 from drop box

MOORHEAD – An employee at a Wells Fargo bank branch in Moorhead is accused of stealing more than $2,000 from the bank’s night drop box.

Estella Nnama Buhendwa, 23, of Fargo, was charged Wednesday in Clay County District Court with felony theft.

Documents filed with the charges say police were called to the Wells Fargo bank on Holiday Drive on March 24 for a theft report.

A branch manager told police two deposits had been removed from the drop box, one for $598.83 on March 6, the other for $1,555.96 on Feb. 10.

Officers spoke with Buhendwa, who allegedly admitted taking the deposits, along with $400 from her cash drawer.

Documents say she told officers she had taken the money for a friend who was in need, but she claimed she never opened the deposits and didn’t know how much money there had been.

Her first court date is set for May 15.
