Waiting for a Mentor: 7-year-old wants to learn to swim

Kinship Partners holds monthly activities for the adults and children in our program; they range from mini-golf or a waterpark to clean up day at a local camp. Recently, we met at a food distribution center to fill bags and carry boxes that would be distributed to children who live in a poverty stricken country.

During this event Samantha, who is just 7 years old, spent over an hour measuring out rice and having the time of her life. She joined 70 other Kinship people who wanted to make a difference in the life of a child.

Sadly, Samantha herself is waiting for someone to care. She is waiting for a mentor.

This little girl loves to be outside riding bike and wants to learn to swim. Samantha says she also likes to paint, sing and dance.

When asked to describe herself, she replied “I’m cute and goofy.” After a few minutes with her, you would agree.

Are you excited for summer this year? Do you know how to swim? Are you up for cute and goofy?

Consider being Samantha’s mentor. Make a difference in this child’s life.

Kinship Partners serves families in Crow Wing County, southern Cass County and the Staples/Motley area by providing positive role models to youth from the ages of 5 to 14. We have offices in Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, Crosby and Staples.
