Smart play spot opening at Brainerd library
Minnesota Children’s Museum is building two additional early literacy environments after completing a plan to build 17 smart play spots in libraries and community centers across Minnesota earlier this year. One of the new spots has been installed at the Brainerd Public Library at 416 South Fifth Street.
A grand opening ceremony for the Brainerd Public Library smart play spot will be at 6:30 p.m. on May 12, at the library, with remarks from Minnesota Children’s Museum Director of Development Laura Nichols-Endres. Special guest from “The Farm on St. Mathias” will lead story time and share information about how food is farmed locally. The event will be followed by an ice cream social.
The Smart Play Spot at Brainerd Public Library was funded largely by the state of Minnesota, Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment, Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. The early literacy environment includes hands-on activities for children, including a boat, farmer’s market and garden.
