DL man reportedly cuts himself in standoff with police

DETROIT LAKES - A 25-year-old man was taken to a hospital Wednesday after reportedly cutting himself with a knife during a short standoff with police in Detroit Lakes.

Police said that shortly after noon, officers were called to the Central Market grocery store for a disturbance involving a knife.

Detroit Lakes police Sgt. Chad Glander said the man fled on foot before officers found him on the north side of the Essentia Health building in the downtown area.

Glander said there was a short standoff before the man was taken into custody and brought to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Hospital with a non-life-threatening, self-inflicted laceration.

No officers were hurt.
