The other driver, Michael Stangel, 27, of Cass Lake, and his passenger and relative Stacy Stangel, 47, of Longville, were seriously injured.

None of the victims were wearing seat belts, the state patrol reported. Alcohol was detected in Michael Stangel’s system, the state patrol reported.

The Stangels were transported to Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota.

Lisa Collins was driving a 2003 Kia Spectra and traveling south on County Road 75. Michael Stangel was northbound on County Road 75 in a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe.

The state patrol reported the Chevy Tahoe swerved into the southbound traffic lane in the no-passing zone and forced an additional vehicle off the road before striking the Kia Spectra.

The force of the collision caused the Collins’ vehicle to come to a final resting spot 100 feet in the west ditch facing the wrong way. The Chevy Tahoe also came to a rest in the west ditch facing the wrong way.
