COTTAGE GROVE - A boy on a bike was injured in an apparent hit-and-run crash Tuesday in Cottage Grove.

Police were called shortly before 5 p.m. to Hinton Avenue and 79th Street on a report of a teen who was struck while riding a bicycle.

The boy was attempting to cross from the east side of Hinton Avenue near Crestview Elementary School to the west side of the road when a brown sport utility vehicle struck him, police said. The vehicle dragged the boy and his bike roughly 80 feet.

The male driver stopped, left his vehicle and yelled at a group of kids near the victim before driving away, police Capt. Pete Koerner said. Children at the scene described the driver as an older, white man.

Witnesses said the vehicle appeared to turn into a neighborhood along Hinton Avenue between 70th and 80th streets, but as of Tuesday evening police were still trying to locate the driver.

The boy was transported to an area hospital with an obvious leg injury. He was conscious as paramedics treated him at the scene.
