Police: Attacker lured slashing victim through sex ad

FARGO – Fargo police say the victim of a slashing Wednesday met his attacker through an online sex ad, and investigators have linked the suspect to four robberies in which victims have been lured through similar means.

Police said Obsa Ali Omer, 18, of Fargo, connected with his most recent victim through an ad on Craigslist, an online classifieds site, and the victim picked up Omer in a pickup truck. As they were driving through a construction zone near Interstate 94, Omer began attacking the man and slashed his arm with a knife, police said.

Omer fled from the truck, and police found him in a nearby apartment building. He’ll face charges of robbery and marijuana possession, police said.

Fargo Police Chief Keith Ternes said detectives are investigating two similar cases in Fargo and two in Moorhead, Minn., in which Omer found victims by posting ads or responding to existing ads.

Investigators believe there may be other victims who have not come forward, not just in the Fargo-Moorhead area but also St. Cloud and the Twin Cities, Moorhead Police Chief David Ebinger said.
