Property tax payments due May 15

Laureen Borden, county auditor-treasurer, reminds property owners that the first half real estate taxes are due May 15

Payments may be brought to the historic courthouse, mailed or paid online through the Crow Wing County website. If mailed, the county requests people mail at least one day early to ensure a postmark of May 15 to avoid a late penalty. Payments made with credit cards have an additional service fee added.

Resort property has a payment deadline of May 31. Seasonal business property owners may file an affidavit to the effect that at least 60 percent of business is done during the five months of summer. They then can also have until May 31 to pay the first half tax.

All checks received this year will go to the bank via the check 21 process with the image being sent to the bank. No second party or postdated checks will be processed.

Payments received after the due date will be assessed late penalties as required by state statute.
