ST. PAUL - A bill to take guns away from domestic abusers is headed to Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton to become law.

The House unanimously passed the final version of the measure Tuesday.

The bill orders that guns be taken away from those convicted of domestic abuse and a judge may order them removed before a conviction. However, gun ownership does not change hands and there are ways the person can get his guns back.

A related bill also is headed to Dayton. It establishes a pilot project to use global positioning system tracking of some domestic offenders.
