A Chevrolet passenger car driven by Derek Simonson, 34, Aitkin, was traveling north on Highway 47. Simonson was behind a northbound Chrysler Town & Country passenger car driven by Emma Plagge, 16, Aitkin.

Plagge was going to make a left turn onto 270th Street. Simonson moved into the southbound lanes to pass Plagge as she was making her turn. Simonson’s car ran into the rear driver’s side of the Chrysler causing it to spin out of control. The Chrysler entered the ditch on the southbound side of the highway.

The Minneota State Patrol reported Plagge was taken to Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.

There were two passengers in the car with Plagge, her mother, Marie Gordon, 46, and another 16-year-old girl, Taylor Bright, also of Aitkin. Bright was not reported injured and Gordon’s condition was not documented on the state crash report, but she was taken to Riverwood Healthcare Center.

Neither Simonson nor his passenger, Gina Isaacs, 31, Aitkin, were reported injured.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Aitkin County Sheriff’s department and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, St. Paul Division, assisted at the scene.
