■ Brainerd girl crowned Pre-Teen Miss Minnesota

The Little Miss Minnesota Pageant announces that Hannah Ausland of Brainerd was crowned Pre-Teen Miss Minnesota 2014 May 18 at the Radisson Blu-Mall of America.

Ausland will represent Minnesota in the National Little Miss United States competition in Washington D.C. in July.

The contestants also competed in a glamour girl competition and a runway modeling event. Ausland was awarded prize package valued at nearly $2,000.

Ausland is both excited and honored to have the opportunity to represent young girls of Minnesota.

■ House speaker to report on 2014 session

Minnesota House Speaker Paul Thissen, and Rep. John Ward, DFL-Baxter, and Rep. Joe Radinovich, DFL-Crosby, will conduct a news conference at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Public Library. The event is part of a statewide effort to highlight the 2014 legislative session.

■ Northland Arboretum membership drive set

The Northland Arboretum will host its first annual membership drive from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the arboretum located on Conservation Drive behind the Westgate Mall.

Special presentations and displays will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Miss Minnesota and other Brainerd area royalty will be present at 4:30 p.m.

All new paid membership will go into drawings for prizes donated by the arboretum’s sponsors Bursch Travel in Baxter and Northwoods Cruise and Travel in Crosby.
