Fire damages Turtle River business

TURTLE RIVER - A fire caused an estimated $154,000 in damage to a salon and spa business Tuesday morning in Turtle River.

The fire was reported at 8:55 a.m. at Wilderness Waves Salon, Spa and Resort, about 10 miles north of Bemidji. When Bemidji and Blackduck firefighters arrived, they found flames exiting the building’s roof, according to a release from the Bemidji Fire Department.

A total of 24 firefighters used two fire engines, a ladder truck and three water tenders to battle the blaze, which caused an estimated $154,000 in damage to the structure and contents, officials said. No injuries were reported, and fire crews were on the scene for 6½ hours.

The cause is under investigation by the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, the Bemidji Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
